Panos F. Vlagopoulos

Πάνος Φ. Βλαγκόπουλος

Ionian University

Panos F. Vlagopoulos studied Law at the Democritus University of Thrace and pursued Musicology in Basel and Corfu. He completed his PhD in 2004 on the historiography of Ars Nova under the supervision of Irmgard Lerch. From 1995 to 2003, he worked as Head of Acquisitions at the Music Library Lilian Voudouri in the Athens Megaron. He has published works on Jani Christou, Wittgenstein and music, and ideology in Modern Greek music. Since 2004, he has been teaching at the Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University in Greece.

Vlagopoulos teaches various courses, including History of Music I & IV, Music Analysis I & II, Historical Music Anthology I, and Analysis Seminar, along with subjects in the epistemology of music analysis. His studies include a Bachelor in Law from Democritus University of Thrace (1986) and a PhD titled “Deixicality and Historical Object: Toward a Critique of the Historiography of Ars Nova” from the Ionian University (2003).

His professional career includes positions as a Teaching Assistant from 2002 to 2004, followed by various academic roles at the Ionian University: non-tenure Lecturer (2009), non-tenure Assistant (2009-2013), Assistant (2013-2016), Associate (2016-2020), and Professor (2020-present). Vlagopoulos is an advisor to the Research Center of the Athens Conservatory Archive, a member of the Editorial Committee of the Online Mousikos Logos, and a Research Fellow at the Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at Princeton University.

His research interests cover the philosophy and methodology of history, the philosophy and methodology of music analysis, and Modern Greek art music.
