About this Website

Perhaps the best way to convey the necessity of this website is to reference a closing statement by Dimitris Agrafiotis in his interview with Francis Guy, featured in the latter’s book Yorgos Sicilianos – Diapason a dialogue with Francis Guy:

If Sicilianos had not been Greek but Italian, French, or German, he would have achieved the same recognition as Olivier Messiaen or Pierre Boulez.

The purpose of this website is to make information about Yorgos Sicilianos’s life and work easily accessible to a global audience of scholars, performers, and the general public. It not only honours the remarkable musical creativity and public service that defined Sicilianos’s legacy but also celebrates those who brought his works to life through their performances, offering detailed information about their contributions and achievements. Furthermore, it recognises and highlights the invaluable efforts of scholars who have deepened the appreciation of Sicilianos’s work through their own research and writings.

I would like to thank Professors Elly Yotopoulou-Sicilianou and Linos-Alexandre Sicilianos for granting their permission to present the archive material of Yorgos Sicilianos on this website and for their encouragement in supporting this endeavour.

I would also like to thank Georgios Demertzis, a dedicated advocate of Sicilianos’s music, who generously offered the entirety of his commercial recordings to be uploaded to this site, allowing others to experience Sicilianos’s exceptional chamber music works.
