Kostas Chardas

Kostas Hardas is an Associate Professor at the Department of Musical Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). He also teaches in the postgraduate program for music performance at the European University Cyprus. He studied piano and musicology in Greece and England. His research and educational interests include analysis and theory of music, Greek music, music from the 19th century to the present, and research approaches to music performance. His writings have been published in Greece (Benaki Museum, Studio University Press) and abroad (Oxford University Press, Cambridge Scholar Press, Routledge, Bloomsbury Academic). His activities include lectures for the Departments of Greek Studies at Columbia University (2014) and Harvard University (2019).

As a pianist, he performs in Greece and internationally. He is a founding member of the ensemble Piandaemonium (12 pianists – 6 pianos). His recordings include the albums In the Depth of the Looking Glass (Naxos, 2013), The American Album, with Patricia Surman on flute (Centaur Records, 2016), Georgios Sisilianos: Anniversary Recording, with Evi Papathanasiou on cello (Irida Classical, 2016). The CD for Naxos was awarded in 2014 by the Union of Greek Music and Theatre Critics. His recent activities include the presentation and recording of works for violin and piano by Greek composers with Victoria Zora in London.
