Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra

Viktor Šimčisko, born on September 28, 1946, in Bratislava, is a Slovak violinist renowned for his contributions to both orchestral and chamber music. He began his formal education at the Conservatory in Bratislava (1960–1966), studying under Aladár Móži. He furthered his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (1984–1986) with Aladár Móži and Albín Vrteľ and later pursued private studies in Vienna (1991–2001) with Wolfgang Schneiderhan.

In 1966, Šimčisko joined the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, becoming the second concertmaster in 1968 and later serving as the long-time concertmaster. His tenure included numerous radio recordings, notably of 20th-century violin and orchestra works, with critics highlighting his performance of Hindemith’s Violin Concerto.

Since 1970, he has been active in chamber music, performing in ensembles such as the Violin Duo of Wolfgang Schneiderhan with Alžbeta Plaskurová and the Bratislava Piano Quartet. His chamber work includes recordings like Andreas Jakob Romberg’s Flute Quintets, Op. 41, Nos. 1–3, alongside flautist Vladislav Brunner and other musicians.

Šimčisko has also collaborated with organist Imrich Szabó and soprano Katarína Turnerová, contributing to recordings such as “Organové impresie.”

Throughout his career, Viktor Šimčisko has been recognized for his exceptional performing skills and dedication to Slovak music, both as a soloist and a chamber musician.
