Pianist
Athens Trio
Born in Athens, Vicky Stylianou began piano lessons at the age of five. At ten, she won first prize in the national “K. Papaioannou” piano competition. She studied at the Athens Conservatory with Maria Chairogiorgou-Sigara, graduating with honours and a first prize. She continued her studies in Paris on a French Government scholarship, studying with Pierre Sancan and at the École Normale de Musique with Germaine Mounier. Further studies at the Music Academy of Basel with Peter Efler culminated in a soloist diploma.
Stylianou has performed in numerous recitals and chamber music concerts across Greece and internationally, including venues in England (Queen Elizabeth Hall), France, Germany, Italy (Spoleto Festival, Florentine May), Switzerland, Belgium, Romania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, and Albania. As a soloist, she has collaborated with Greek and foreign orchestras, such as the State Orchestras of Athens and Thessaloniki, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Camerata of the Friends of Music, the Orchestra of Colors, the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, and the Chamber Orchestra of the National Opera. Abroad, she has performed with ensembles including the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Symphony Orchestra of Basel, the Constantin Silvestri Chamber Orchestra of Bucharest, and the symphony orchestras of Erfurt, Marienbad, and Burgas.
Stylianou has made recordings for radio and television and appeared in both Greek and international festivals. She has premiered numerous contemporary works and, since 1982, has been a member of the Athens Trio, one of Greece’s few long-standing permanent ensembles. The trio’s repertoire includes nearly all works for piano trio, and it has released three albums featuring works by Greek composers.
In addition to her performance career, Stylianou holds a degree in advanced theoretical studies, including fugue. Her orchestrations and arrangements have been performed by various musical ensembles. She teaches at the Greek Conservatory and is a member of the Orchestra of Colors. She also wrote the libretto for the opera Momo, her first work in this genre.
