Pianist, Chorus Master, Conductor
Greek National Opera
Nikos Vasiliou was born in Athens and earned a piano diploma from the National Conservatoire in 1991 under the guidance of Hara Kalomiri. He later attended classes at the Juilliard School in New York and pursued studies in conducting at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, supported by an Athens Academy Scholarship and an Alexander Gibson Scholarship.
He has performed extensively, including concerts at Athens’ Parnassus Hall and at cultural events across Greece. Vasiliou has worked as a music teacher in secondary education and at the Filippos Nakas Conservatory. Since 1995, he has taught piano and choral conducting at the National Conservatory in Athens. As the chorus master of the Manolis Kalomiris Children’s Chorus (1992–2000), he collaborated with the Greek National Opera (GNO), the Athens and Epidaurus Festivals, and the Athens Concert Hall.
Since 1994, Vasiliou has served as a répétiteur for more than sixty GNO productions, including Turandot, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, and Die Fledermaus. He was appointed assistant chorus master (2001–2003) and later chorus master of the GNO from 2005 to 2011. In 2011, he became an assistant conductor for the GNO and a study advisor for the GNO Opera Studio.
As a conductor, Vasiliou has collaborated with the Athens State Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colors, and the GNO Orchestra. Additionally, several of his compositions have been performed at the Athens Concert Hall.
