Pianist
Giannis Papadopoulos was born in 1908 in Alexandria and grew up in Neo Faliro, where he began piano lessons at the age of 7. He studied at the Athens Conservatory, the Hellenic Conservatory, and the National Conservatory, from which he received his piano diploma in 1949. In 1938, he was appointed as a music program curator at the newly established Athens Radio Station. He collaborated as a soloist with the Athens State Orchestra, the Little Orchestra of Athens, and the ERT Symphony Orchestra. He also gained recognition in European music centers, performing as a soloist under the direction of distinguished conductors and collaborating with esteemed Greek and foreign artists in chamber music and Lied concerts. He was the first pianist to perform the piano works of Manos Hadjidakis and even transcribed some of them into sheet music for publication. He also appeared within the framework of “Greek Contemporary Music.” His performances were recorded by well-known record companies.
