Chara Tombra-Lagopati

Χαρά Τόμπρα-Λαγοπάτη

Pianist

Pianist, educator, musicologist, and doctor of philosophy, Chara Tombra-Lagopati was an important figure in the classical and contemporary Greek music scene, with an international career with many performances in Europe, North and South America, and Asia.

A professor at the Athens Conservatory, she taught piano and piano pedagogy there for a long time.

With her husband, violinist Spyros Tombras, they formed the “Duo Tombra” and performed, for many decades, numerous concerts in Greece and abroad. Several important Greek composers wrote works for the “Duo Tombra”. Together they had also participated in the Attic Trio, with a corresponding multi-year artistic presence.

Chara Tombra-Lagopati studied German Philology and was awarded a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Athens. She published many essays as well as translations, mainly on the aesthetics and philosophy of music. Her doctoral thesis entitled “Adorno’s Aesthetic Theory and Philosophy of Music in the 20th Century” was published as a book in 2010 (Papagrigoriou Publications – Nakas).
