Chara Sira was born in Athens in 1970. She studied at the Hellenic Conservatory with Sofia Poimenidou and Stelios Kafantaris, and at the Conservatoire National Superieur in Paris with Jean Sulem. She graduated in 1994 with a First Prize in viola unanimously and with a special distinction. She continued her studies at the Conservatoire in Bordeaux with Tassos Adamopoulos.

Sira was honored with scholarships from the State Scholarships Foundation, the French government, and the A.S. Onassis Foundation.

She has appeared as a soloist with the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, the ERT National Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra of Colors.

As a member of the New Hellenic Quartet from 2001 to 2006, she performed at significant chamber music festivals and recorded works by Respighi, Nielsen, Skalkottas, and Koshkin for the BIS label.

Sira has served as the principal viola in the ERT National Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of Colors and currently holds the same position in the Thessaloniki State Orchestra.

She is a member of the “DissonArt Ensemble.”

Chara Sira teaches at the Department of Music Science and Art at the University of Macedonia, at the Music Week of Lefkada, and at the International MusikTage in Brache, Germany.
