Pianist
Stefanos Nasos has given solo recitals and chamber music concerts and has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Bulgaria, Finland, England, France, Germany, Japan, and Greece. He recorded Prokofiev’s 2nd Concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra of ERA and three digital discs with chamber music by Henri Vieuxtemps and George Sicilianos, and the piano works of Emilios Riadis. He has performed with all Greek orchestras, including the complete Beethoven concertos cycle with the Camerata, Orchestra of Friends of Music on fortepiano (2013), and with the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (2022). He also presented the European premiere of George Tsontakis’ “Man of Sorrows” for piano and orchestra with the State Orchestra of Athens in 2008, and the Greek premiere of Einojuhani Rautavaara’s 1st Piano Concerto with the Athens City Symphony in 2017. As a soloist, he has performed piano works by G. Tsontakis, D. Terzakis, M. Varvoglis, A. Riadis, G. Sicilianos, D. Mitropoulos, M. Borboudakis, G. Psathas, G. Ligeti, G. Crumb, M. van der Aa, and J. Ter Veldhuis, including premieres in and outside of Greece.
Stefanos Nasos received his Doctorate of Music from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in 2006, studying under Matti Raekallio. He previously studied at the Higher Schools of Music in Cologne (with Roswitha Gediga), Karlsruhe (with Sontraud Speidel), and at the Nikos Skalkottas Conservatory (with Kalomoira Nasos). He has participated in piano seminars with Lev Vlassenko, Paul Badura-Skoda, Oxana Yablonskaya, Christopher Elton, John O’ Conor, Arie Vardi, Eero Heinonen, and chamber music seminars with François D’ Albert, Leonidas Kavakos, Frans Helmerson, Vasili Lobanov, Ueli Wiget, Werner Dickel, and Ralf Gothóni.
In chamber music, Stefanos Nasos regularly collaborates with colleagues such as Apostolos Palios, Angeliki Kathariou, Mario Zeffiri, Maria Anisegou, and the xPause string quartet. His performances have included festivals such as “Musei di sera” in Trieste, Italy, the Athens Festival, Serifos, Samos (Young Artists Festival), Paxoi, Thessaloniki Piano Festival, Thessaloniki (1997) and Paphos (2017) Cultural Capitals, the International Festivals of Yiannis A. Papaioannou and Aegina, the ICMC/SMC 2014 joint conference, the Greek Music Festivals, the Ionian University Summer Music Academy, and the Pharos (Nicosia), Bilgi (Istanbul), and Átlátszó Hang (Budapest) Contemporary Music Festivals.
He has presented chamber music works by contemporary composers such as J. L. Adams, J. Cage, S. Reich, F. Romitelli, N. Bacri, M. Stroppa, G. Ligeti, G. Crumb, G. Pesson, U. Meriläinen, and L. Harrison, often premiering them in Greece. His interest in contemporary Greek music is reflected in his premieres of works by Greek composers, both in Greece and abroad. He regularly collaborates with the Greek National Opera (Alternative Stage, ballet).
Stefanos is a member of the Ergon Ensemble and the Piandaemonium ensemble. Since 2009, he has been in charge of Nasos Publications and organized the “The piano at its forte” piano recital series in Athens. Since September 2022, he has been teaching contemporary piano as a professor at the Higher School of Music of San Sebastián “Musikene.”
