Pianist
Greek National Opera
Sophia Tamvakopoulou studied Piano, Harmony, Counterpoint, and Fugue at the National Conservatoire of Athens under M. Kokkalis, G. Kampanas, and S. Klapsis. She continued her piano studies in Athens and Paris with E. Mouzalas, A. Lefevre, and B. Rigutto. Tamvakopoulou is a graduate of the Department of Music Studies at the University of Athens.
As a soloist, she has been awarded in international competitions, including the Grand Konzerteum International Piano Competition and the Zeiler Competition. She has performed in Greece and abroad, participating in international festivals such as the “Manolis Kalomiris” festival, “Journeys to the Imagination” in Tinos, and the International Classical Music Festival of Cyclades. She has collaborated with the Camerata – Friends of Music Orchestra and the Athens Municipal Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to her performance career, Tamvakopoulou has composed music for theatre, television, and advertising. From 1995 to 2009, she served as a professor of piano and theory at the National Conservatoire. Since 2006, she has been a music trainer at the Greek National Opera, and since September 2015, she has served as the Head of Studies at the Theater.
