Pavlos Maropoulos was born in Athens. He studied at the Hellenic Conservatory under Yolanda di Tasso and attended the Theatre School of Spyros Evangelatos. He also participated in vocal seminars with Kostas Paskalis, Luigi Alva, Jeannette Pilou, John Modinos, and Ileana Cotrubas. In 1986, he joined the Choir of the Greek National Opera (GNO). Since then, he has performed in over fifty productions and revivals, interpreting main and supporting bass roles in operas such as La Bohème, Tosca, Adriana Lecouvreur, Madama Butterfly, Un ballo in maschera, Thaïs, Simon Boccanegra, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Rigoletto, The Barber of Seville, Eugene Onegin, Salome, Il matrimonio segreto, The Marriage of Figaro, Fedora, and The Tales of Hoffmann, among others.

Additionally, he has sung in Greek operas such as The Fire by Yorgos Siclianos, A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Periklis Koukos, The Water Sprites by Manolis Kalomiris, The Chessboard Runaways by Yorgos Kouroupos, and Miss de Belle-Île by Samaras. His work also includes operettas such as Die Fledermaus, The Godson, The Cretan Girl, I Want to See the Pope!, and Modern Chambermaid. In 2000, he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York in Mikis Theodorakis’ opera Electra.

He has collaborated with the National Theatre, independent theatres, and the Athens Concert Hall. In 1997/98, he appeared as Uberto in La serva padrona in a production by the Athens Chamber Opera. Maropoulos currently teaches voice at the Emmetron Conservatory and the Higher School of Dramatic Art at Mimi Denissi’s Central Stage.
