Duo Papadopoulou
Anthoula Papadopoulou is a Greek pianist, pedagogue, and music author, best known as one half of the internationally active Duo Papadopoulou with her husband, Yannis Papadopoulos. She graduated with distinction in piano from the Hellenic Conservatory of Athens, continued studies with Achilles Colassis at the Lausanne Conservatory, and later specialised in duo-piano performance in Hannover with Kurt Bauer and Heidi Bung. From 1971, the duo toured widely across Europe (including Austria, Germany, Hungary, and Switzerland), appeared on Greek and Italian radio and television, and gave notable performances at festivals such as Dimitria in Thessaloniki.
A champion of 20th-century and Greek repertoire, Papadopoulou has performed music by Yorgos Sicilianos, Panos Triantafyllidis, Yorgo Platon, Skalkottas, and their contemporaries, alongside a broad canon from Bach and Mozart to Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc, Milhaud, and Shostakovich. She has co-authored pedagogical books on piano and music history and prepared transcriptions for two pianos and piano four hands. Reviews in the Greek and international press (Chronographos, Vradini, Athens Daily Post, Deli Hírlap, Ethnos) consistently praised the Duo’s unity, clarity, and technical exactness—often remarking that they played “as one performer.” She has also generously supported preservation efforts, granting permission for broadcast and archival recordings and documents—such as the 1983 ERT Morning Concerts broadcast of Sicilianos’s Tanagraea—to be shared in the Sicilianos.org Sound Archives.
