Greek National Opera
He was born in Athens in 1968 and studied at the National Conservatory of Athens, graduating with a Diploma in singing with distinction (unanimously), a first prize, a performance excellence award and a money prize (in the class of Kiki Tzavella). He perfected his studies at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien (University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna) under Helene Mezriczky Karusso. Pol Zachariadis is also a graduate from the Greek Theatre Workshop and the Spyros Evangelatos Opera Auditorium. He has attended song seminars under Costas Paschalis, Jeannette Pilou and Martina Arroyo, as well as dance classes, expressive drama movement and the Martha Graham technique under Giannis Flery, Dora Tsatsou and Maria Chors. He has received a praise in the Maria Callas Competition and a distinction in the 7th International Coloratura Singing Contest Sylvia Geszty. He has appeared in Vienna (in Peter Maxwell Davies’ opera Resurrection), the Scottish Opera, the Teater de Singel in Antwerp, the Stadsschouwburg (Municipal Theatre) of Amsterdam, in Seville, in Valencia, and in concert performances in Munich, Aachen, Rimini and Krusevac (Serbia). In Greece, he has worked with the Municipal Theatre of Corfu (in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas), the Thessaloniki Opera (in Menotti’s Amahl and the night visitors, 2003), the Thessaloniki Concert Hall (in Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto). He has also performed as a soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Luxembourg and the Philharmonia Orchestra of London. In the period from 1992 to 1998, Zachariadis appeared as soloist, in the following GNO opera and operetta productions and/or revivals: Die Fledermaus (as Prince Orlofsky), The Fire (as Jester), Dido and Aeneas (as Spirit and Witch).
