Ondrej Lenárd is a prominent Slovak conductor, born on September 9, 1942, in Krompachy, Slovakia, which was then part of Hungary. His career has been marked by notable achievements and collaborations with various esteemed orchestras and opera theatres. Lenárd served as the principal conductor of the Czecho-Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1977 to 1990, and from 1991 to 2001, he was at the helm of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. During his time with these orchestras, he performed works such as Ján Levoslav Bella’s “Wieland der Schmied” and has an extensive discography including recordings for the Marco Polo and Naxos labels.

In addition to his work in Slovakia, Lenárd has been a significant figure in international music circles. He has been closely associated with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, where he has been serving as Honorary Conductor since 2001. His international engagements have included appearances with renowned groups like the Czech Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, and Vienna State Opera. Furthermore, Lenárd has been a Permanent Conductor of both the National Theatre and State Opera in Prague.
