Harpist
ERT- National Symphony Orchestra
Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra
Maria Bildea was born in Romania, where she began studying the harp at the age of eight at the “George Enescu” Music High School. At the age of twelve, she gave her first recital, and at eighteen, she appeared as a soloist at the “Athenaeum” hall in Bucharest. She continued her studies at the Music Academy of Bucharest, from where she graduated with honours in 1986. Concurrently, she studied with Liana Pasquali. She won First Prize at the National Harp Competition in Romania (1980, 1982, and 1986) and in 1985 participated in the Final Phase of the International Harp Competition in Tel Aviv, as well as in the International Competition in Indiana, USA. Immediately after graduating, she became the First Harpist of the Ploieşti State Symphony Orchestra.
In 1988, she came to Greece at the invitation of the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, of which she was a member for one and a half years. In 1990, following an invitation from Manos Hadjidakis, she moved to Athens, where she collaborated with the Orchestra of Colors. At the same time, since 1993, she has been the Principal Harpist of the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Maria Bildea founded the first harp school in Greece at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki and, in 1992, at the “Athenaeum” Conservatory. Since 1989, she has been a member of the “World Harp Congress.” She has collaborated as a soloist with the most significant orchestras in Romania (George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, Bucharest Symphony Orchestra, Romanian Radio Orchestra) and with all the symphony orchestras in Greece. She has given recitals and has collaborated with Greek and foreign soloists in concerts in Greece, Romania, France, and Great Britain. With her husband, violinist Sergiu Nastasa, she has repeatedly appeared in concerts and radio-television productions. Her repertoire includes works from the pre-classical era to the present day, including premieres. Greek and Romanian composers have dedicated works to her.
