Percussionist
Percussions de Strasbourg
Jean-Paul Bernard entered Georges Van Gucht’s class at the Toulon Conservatory and earned a first prize in percussion and a first prize in Chamber Music in 1985. He broadened his musical education by studying other instrumental disciplines, such as the trumpet, to complement his musical training. He participated in drum/jazz master classes with Daniel Humair.
As a soloist with Percussions de Strasbourg since 1986, he created and recorded major works of the group’s repertoire. From 1998, he was the Artistic Director of the ensemble. He delved into Iranian digital percussion, specifically studying Zarb with master Djamchid Chémirani from 1990 to 1994.
A teacher at the Percussions de Strasbourg school from 1986 to 1994, he continued to lead workshops and sessions, including Percustra. He also served as a teacher at the CFMI de Sélestat from 1989 to 1996, conducting percussion workshops in conjunction with dance and visual arts performances.
Bernard was part of various ensembles and orchestras, notably Musica 13 from 1985 to 1996. He contributed to musical projects, including the Dresden festival. Additionally, he was a member of national and international juries.
