Franz Litschauer was born on April 6, 1903 in Laa an der Thaya, Lower Austria, and died on February 29, 1972  in Vienna. A conductor and composer, he played chamber music and in the orchestra as a high school student in Stockerau. Between 1921 and 1927 he studied violin with F. Mairecker and J. Egghard at the MAkad of Vienna. Additionally, he studied music theory with J. Marx in 1922/23. Further studies with F. Schreiber (composition) and Hermann Scherchen (conducting) are reported. Between 1938 and 1941 Litschauer conducted the Vienna Women’s Symphony Orchestra,  and in 1947-52 the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, which he founded (Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft ). From 1953 he worked mostly abroad. From 1956 to 1960 he conducted the symphony orchestra he founded in Cairo. In 1960/61 he was chief conductor of the National Radio Foundation Orchestra of Greece (EIR). Between 1962 and 1968  he was guest conductor in Italy, Canada, and South Africa.
