Cellist
New Hellenic Quartet
Apostolos Chandrakis was born in Thessaloniki and studied cello at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki with M. Kazambaka. He graduated in 1982 with Distinction and continued his studies, as a Greek State Scholar at the Academy of Vienna with S. Benesch and A. May, from where he received a soloist’s diploma in 1989. He attended classes with F. J. Sellheim, H. Schiff, P. Tortelier, M. Maisky. He was a member of the World Youth Orchestra in 1981 and 1984, of the Municipal Orchestra of Thessaloniki from 1990-1996. Since then, he has been a member of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra. Professor of Chamber Music at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, member of the New Hellenic Quartet, he has collaborated as a soloist with the Municipal Orchestra of Thessaloniki, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the ERT Orchestra and has given many recitals in Greece, Austria, Italy, Serbia, Germany, Bulgaria, and the UK.
