Description:
Στο Νησί της Ναυσικάς (On Nausicaa’s Island) is a novel by Makis Lachanas (Μάκης Λαχανάς) published in 1996 in Corfu by Plous Publishing (Εκδόσεις Πλους). The final chapter of this book titled Odysseus’s Letter to Nausicaa of Scheria (Γράμμα του Οδυσσέα στη Ναυσικά της Σχερίας) is a poignant letter, in which Odysseus reveals to Nausicaa that he is not the hero she believed him to be, but rather a myth crafted by Homer. He confesses that for him, Ithaca was never the ultimate goal; instead, he has been wandering, burdened by memories and loneliness. He reminisces about their tender moments together and expresses his sorrow over their separation, reflecting on the pain of their acquaintance and the bittersweet end to his long adventures. Odysseus describes his disdain for the sea, his journey through Epirus and Dodona, and his eventual retreat to the Pindus mountains, seeking solace and an escape from his former life. The letter ends with Odysseus expressing his desire for peace and death, feeling consumed by his memories and the chaos of his past.
